Job Purpose

 

  • We are looking for a Data Solutions Analyst to work alongside the Product Owner and serve as liaison between the data product team, the technology portfolio team and business end-users.
  • They will ensure the business problem or opportunity is clearly defined, business modelling is conducted, business requirements are documented using best practice, testing scenarios are appropriate and, the product development team is clear on its sprint, epic and final business outcomes throughout. 
  • You will also ensure existing solutions are reused wherever possible.
  • This is an exciting role for someone who is still at the beginning of their career, has a deep passion for Data and wishes to pursue that avenue.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • A Data Solution Analyst is part BA and part technical lead developer in nature. We want hands-on skills to support product development when required and typical project/product business engagement (customer journeys, requirements and prototypes/MVPs) in the mix.
  • This role focuses serves as a liaison between the Domain Product team, the Portfolio team delivering requirements alignment, process modelling, test collaboration and communicating ongoing analysis and revision of product features during development.
  • Support the shaping, leading and delivery of major transformational business, technology and process change projects & programmes
  • Apply best practice methods to investigate, analyse and document the business in terms of business functions, processes and data
  • Document business needs/benefits in clear visually engaging ways using user stories, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes and personas
  • Define the problem or opportunity (vision), the business context and documents the desired future state using outcomes/ measures of success
  • Be able to say ‘no’ to stakeholders or guide them towards the right way forwards. Build in quality from the start 
  • Qualification, quantification and prioritisation of business benefits relating to requirements for change and improved business processes, assisting in managing the product backlog, roadmap and strategy
  • Lead the facilitation of engaging business workshops & interviews with stakeholders from board level to frontline staff 
  • Stay aware of market, data and digital technology and industry trends to add value and innovation to the business 
  • Actively contribute to Royal Mail’s Business Analysis community and collaborate with peers on best practice 
  • Educate business stakeholders in Agile ways of working and the benefits of iterative software delivery 
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements across the business, project teams and delivery services, fostering innovative thinking 
  • Supports scoping and estimation of effort for each user story added to the Product backlog.

 

Qualifications and experience required:

 

  • Proven experience across enterprise data delivery with sufficient technical knowledge of the best data product and engineering practices in a commercial environment. 
  • Experience with writing clear, deployable code (in any language).
  • Experience with SQL and relevant technologies.
  • Experience in product-led organisations. Familiarity with agile delivery models such as Scrum, Kanban and Lean Startup
  • Engineering stakeholder requirements use cases and customer journeys, challenging where appropriate
  • Stakeholder management – managing difficult stakeholders, & understanding business problems and pain points
  • Prioritising business needs requirements and benefits into the project / platform product backlog
  • Experience of going through the transformation from Waterfall to Agile with enterprise scale data, analytics or data science products.
  • Experience of applying UX & User Centred Design principles specifically in the delivery of data dashboards, analytics or reporting insigt
  • Experience of working with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence 
  • Exposure to continuous integration, GCP data components (BigQuery, DataProc, DataFlow, Data Catalog, Data Fusion and Composer) preferred.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of cloud database technologies, data warehousing and data vault concepts and the DMBOK framework useful.
  • Exposure to implementing distributed data applications in public cloud environments (GCP preferred)
  • A relevant degree or recognised project management methodology qualification (PRINCE2, Kanban, SAFe) is preferred
