Job Purpose
To understand and influence PFW strategic business plans, leading the IT response to strategic plans and roadmap development
Ensuring that the Technology considerations are shared and embedded in plans. With a broad understanding of the PFW portfolio of change, identifying dependencies, synergies, constraints and opportunities. Presenting a holistic view of business needs to support forward planning activities across IT.  The voice of IT at key leadership events, programme boards and steering groups, and provide a clear two way communication path between commercial/operational teams and IT.  The role will be responsible for maintaining productive relationships on an equal footing with business counterparts including identification of IT-enabled opportunities to the business, proposing solutions to business problems, advocates of best industry practice where led by technology, and being the empowered representative of business to IT. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Accountable for delivering outstanding IT-enabled value, with a focus on new proposition development aligned to business and technology strategy 
  • Promotion of collaborative working practices across business functions, IT Directorates and suppliers to ensure successful alignment and delivery of the business and IT priorities
  • Use influencing skills to shape investment proposals within the scope of the IT capital investment budget. 
  • Lead and manage the core IT Business Engagement team including responsibility for recruitment, deployment and ongoing line management of staff.
  • Champion new ways of working, identifying and driving forward opportunities to continually improve the quality of relationship and effectiveness of how IT enables the business.
  • Responsible for identifying the best suppliers for the business and ensuring these providers have the right commercial frameworks in place 
  • Working closely with Technical Design Authority to ensure the PFW IT estate is optimised and maintained at supportable technical levels
  • Drive positive relationships with key business stakeholders and key members of third party suppliers.

  • £7M annual operating budget.


Key competencies
The Business Engagement Manager should have an outstanding knowledge of complex business environments as well as having strong technical aptitude and proven leadership skills. In addition there is a requirement for extensive experience in engaging and influencing senior business stakeholders; with a consultative approach to business engagement.  Experience in managing large portfolios of change within difficult environments.
