This is an exciting time to join Royal Mail as we grow and innovate moving towards a parcel led business. At the heart of this will be our National Distribution operation who move our parcels across a vast network throughout the UK.  

We are looking to recruit 2 Transport Office Managers to facilitate the effective running of our transport office at Yorkshire Distribution Centre.


About the role
Reporting to the Distribution Manager, as a Transport Office Manager you will lead and inspire a front-line team of circa 200 drivers of large goods vehicles (17.5tn and above). Working to achieve results, you will embody our company values and leadership expectations and will be driven by a will to make a difference for our customers.

First and foremost, you will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of your team through adherence to safety policies, procedures and regulations. As a natural leader, you will ensure that strict compliance with all legislative requirements is met including to UK Road Transport Legislation. You’ll professionalise distribution, ensuring operational work plans are achieved and that our pipeline optimises the flow of parcels and mail, whilst maintaining compliance with business policies, national work plan and Standard Operating Procedures.

You will own your shift resourcing plan, holding weekly resourcing meetings to ensure all duties are resourced as efficiently as possible, liaising with agencies where necessary, and ensuring that robust plans are in place for Special Events and Christmas Peak.

Shift Pattern
Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 05:10 – 18:50
Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 17:10 – 06:50


About you
It takes more than organisational skills to be a manager. We’re looking for individuals with a passion for people. You’ll provide coaching and advice, while keeping the whole operation running smoothly. Your experience might be within logistics, retail, FMCG but your ability to motivate, inspire and lead is what we’re looking for. You’ll have an eye for detail and be confident in efficiently managing resources and budgets – all with a view to ensuring your team is working at its very best.


Candidates will preferably hold a Certificate of Professional Competence, or as a minimum be prepared to study for and attain within 12 months. With knowledge of safety and legal requirements, including drivers’ hours legislation, you’ll be experienced within vehicle checks, Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and accident investigations.
