Job Purpose


The Distribution Support Manager, will report to the Lead Distribution Manager (LDM) and will work alongside the LDM to ensure the safe and legal operation of the fleet 
This role will primarily be responsible for the Night and Weekend shift operations although flexibility is required as the operation is 24/7
The role will be required to work closely with the other operational stakeholders at the Midlands Super Hub (MSH) to ensure an excellent and efficient service for our customers along with running a wider linehaul operation across the national network. 

The individual will also be required to support the operation of the Yard Management Solution (YMS) and other relevant technical solutions which will enable the yard to run in a safe and efficient manner. 
This role will contribute to improvements in the scorecard for distribution 


Key accountabilities

•    Responsible for ensuring safe operations through adherence to agreed safety policies, procedures and regulations
•    Responsible for compliance with all legislative requirements applicable to all fleet/trucks – holder of O’ Licence for site 
•    Ensure all distribution/VOC management systems are complied with i.e. pre-advice, Open Options, Vision, Joined Up
•    Build effective stakeholder relationships including pipeline colleagues, customer teams, fleet, assets and agency suppliers.
•    Development and deployment of actions to ensure legal and RM standards compliance inclusive of Safety, Quality, Legal compliance 
•    Utilising balanced scorecard/Key performance Indicators review site performance and create robust plans to close performance gaps with have team utilising continuous improvement tools
•    Developing and deploying employee engagement activity 
•    Manage individual and team performance with performance management activity in place for all TOM’s, including 121’s and Personal Development Plans.
•    Develop an excellent IR/ER climate with full involvement of Distribution employees and the CWU. 
•    Responsible for 1st, 2nd and 3rd line level HR processes including Conduct and Attendance cases
•    Business plan deployment/achievement
•    Co-ordinate robust special event plans and delivery, including an increase in drivers and fleet for Peak
•    Control and management of the YMS and the associated yard plan.


Key Dimensions 

•    All 6 weekend and night shift TOMs will report into this role. Overall responsibility for around 250 drivers, 180 Mus and 400 trailers
•    Delegated budgetary responsibility in accordance with the role size
•    Operator licence responsibility


 Knowledge /Skills /Experience

•    Knowledge of safety requirements and accident investigation 
•    Industry experience and working knowledge of Logistics and Distribution operations, leading teams and delivering results across a balanced scorecard
•    Knowledge of UK road transport legislation, must be Certificate of Professional Competence qualified, or be prepared to study in order to attain within 12 months (essential role criteria)
•    Good understanding of Network Planning tools, Royal Mail policies and processes 
•    Experience of using VOC management systems 
•    Strategic planning and project management skills, data/budgetary analysis skills
•    Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and excellent influencing skills
•    Negotiating with both CWU/CMA at local and divisional level
•    Continuous Improvement knowledge


Shift Patterns


There will need to be a regular presence on nights and weekends to manage their team with no defined shift patterns and focus will need to be where support is required
