Mount Pleasant Mail Centre

Not many companies can say they’ve been around for 500 years and were founded by Henry VIII, but we can. Royal Mail is the UK’s designated Universal Postal Service Provider, supporting customers, businesses and communities around the country. We are the only postal company to provide a one-price-goes-anywhere, six days a week service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK.

It is an exciting time to join Royal Mail. We’re a FTSE 250 company, we generated revenue of £10.2 billion in 2017-18. On top of this, we have recently undertaken an extensive review and transformation of the Technology function, one of the largest IT transformation programmes across the UK. With this transformation now complete, there is significant potential for growth and success.

Digital is now at the heart of our business and drives our vision of enabling smarter working - from Front Line colleagues through to Head Office. At the same time we strive to deliver innovative products and services through a world class customer experience.

Are you a talented and creative Xamarin developer, with Android experience, interested in greenfield development using latest technologies?

Would you be proud of building Apps that will be used across the UK and directly affect your friends and family?

Our Development team is revolutionising the technology traditionally used by Royal Mail postmen/postwomen – taking it into Cloud and making it work with IOT devices (Internet of Things).

Your role will cover 2 parts - developing Apps for Postmen/Postwomen and developing Apps for our external customers.

This role is mainly working on the handheld devices you will have seen being used by your postman.

The technology is brand new and is at a massive scale – we have 80,000 devices and 120,000 users, covering the whole country.

In other projects, you will be working directly with customers, building the Apps that the general public uses - e.g. the Royal Mail Mobile App.

With a 500 year history, Royal Mail is still seen as a critical part of the UK Infrastructure, and you could personally make a real impact on the way that the UK public deals with Royal Mail.

As a developer, we guarantee that you will find the volumes and sizes pretty exciting!

And the potential for new Mobile Apps is only going to grow.

The team - we’ve started the journey to build an in-house Development Centre of Excellence.

We see ourselves as technology evangelists – spreading the word about DevOps across the business, working from the inside to transform business processes.

The .Net Dev team has already had significant successes which we’ve done at scale.

We’ve got lots of exciting innovative ideas and we love the opportunity of taking an idea and developing a prototype to show to the business.

You - as a skilled Xamarin developer, you will be helping the new development team build and maintain systems at the core of the Royal Mail. These applications are used by 120,000 users everyday and are critical to Royal Mail operations.
