Playing our part
Posties are the face of Royal Mail and their work wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our sorting teams. Every letter and parcel goes from the letter box into one of our sorting centres where it’s then given to the right postie to take on their route. With over 1,500 depots it’s a big job, but they work together to get it done.
Day to day life
Both teams need people who like to be on their feet getting things done. As a postie you’ll travel through your community getting deliveries where they need to be. You’ll be out in every weather and you’ll have the latest technology helping support you. The sorting office is all about processing post as quickly and effectively as possible and we’re always developing new ways to do it better. But in both roles, our colleagues are part of a real community who look out for each other, help each other succeed and make the most of doing a job they’re proud of.
Meet Stacey
Stacey wanted a career change and chose being a postie for the outdoor life. Going from two thousand steps a day to twenty thousand wasn't easy, but she had plenty of support to help her find her feet. Watch her film and find out why she thinks she made the right decision.
Meet Matt
Meet Matt. He’s been a postie in Bradford for over 10 years and still enjoys it for the same reasons he applied in the first place. Early starts and early finishes, being outside rather than in an office and getting to work alongside people he likes. But that’s not all he does. He’s a workplace coach as well which means he helps newer colleagues learn the job. Find out more about what that means in this film.
Meet Jodie
Think being a postie is just for men? Tell that to Jodie who’s been here since 1998. She’s enjoyed a lot of different roles including a postal cadet, distribution and she now works as a postie. Whether it’s saying good morning to the community she’s part of or just enjoying the fresh air every day, she’s never been prouder to work for Royal Mail. Watch her film and find out why.
Check out a day in the life of two of our posties!
