Competitive salary, Car allowance of £4200 or £3700 as cash via payroll each month (£308.33), Family Private Healthcare, Annual bonus potential of upto 18%, Generous annual leave offering of 27.5 days, plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 10 years service

National role with the need to be able to work onsite at our Gloucester office 3 days per week with some site travel across the UK

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Royal Mail as a Mechanical Design Engineer. The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for delivering high levels of mechanical engineering competence to a team of highly skilled technical engineers. The role will work actively as part of the Design Engineering team, striving to modernise and improve existing processes whilst driving new and innovative solutions into our current ways of working to improve business performance

 

This is a key role in our journey to bring the engineering vision to life, responsible for managing and developing a key team within engineering and supporting the growth of the engineering design strand.
 

About the role

 

The MDE plays a leading role in driving engineering design projects, innovations and solutions both centrally and locally. You will:

 

  • Drive the mechanical design of in-house technical solutions whilst leading and testing and implementation plan for mechanical bias projects within the design engineering team
  • Identify future opportunities to drive in-house manufacturing capability to deliver key elements of engineering design projects
  • Deliver quality service to engineering teams for spares, obsolescence and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Champion new processes to drive in-house capability, innovation and people development within engineering
  • Work closely with maintenance teams to drive reliability into existing automation fleet 
  • Promote the business culture: Be Positive, Be Brilliant, Be Part of It and drive professionalism, positivity and engagement within all areas of RM Engineering

 

About You

 

You should have the ability to work with a team technical experts to deliver high performance whilst playing a key role in the development of the function.

 

You will have the following experience:

 

  • A minimum of a level 4 (NVQ or equivalent) qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline 
  • Experience in detailed product design and development within an automated environment
  • A strong Engineering background with proven ability to demonstrate intuitive thinking towards engineering problem solving and solution delivery. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience of using CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to meet product development deadlines and quality parameter targets
  • Ability to work on own initiative and actively as part of a team
  • A highly motivated individual with a proven track record of successfully delivering improvements and initiatives in a challenging environment
