At Royal Mail, we take pride in how we do what we do, our rich history and our long-held values, but we don’t stand still. Through harnessing technology and embracing change, we are transforming our business.

As the world we work in develops, we’ll develop too; keeping up with the times and providing the best for colleagues and customers; creating a Royal Mail they can rely on, now and in the future.

Already the UK’s greenest parcel carrier, Royal Mail is taking more decisive steps to tackle climate change, including a new Group-wide commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 as part of its new ‘Steps to Zero’ environmental strategy. This commitment hugely accelerates its actions towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The commitment will put environmental considerations at the heart of how Royal Mail operates as a business, and will drive transformational change in the years ahead, as the business replaces diesels in its fleet with electric vehicles, reduces air freight in favour of transport by rail and continues to invest in renewables.

To drive this change, Royal Mail is recruiting a Strategy Delivery Manager to join its Environment Team. This role will be key to ensuring successful project management delivery of Royal Mail’s Environmental Delivery Programme (EDP).

About the role

You will primarily be responsible for managing and developing our EDP, delivering the objectives of our net-zero and environmental strategy and focusing on change management and transformation across the business. You will lead on the fleet electrification and charging infrastructure projects which are crucial to supporting our roll-out of EVs across our Fleet.

Reporting directly to the Environment Lead you will prepare regular updates on the EDP, delivering these to a range of internal stakeholders and collaborating with colleagues to continually improve and update the strategy. You will also facilitate governance mechanisms (reporting and steering groups) to drive programme performance with a range of stakeholders, and support in the technical development of strategic emissions reporting frameworks and data management strategies, aligning with frameworks such as SBTi and CDP.

You will track expenditure of the programme, advising senior management on costs against the total project budget. In doing so you will ensure the long-term investment needs of the programme are collated and communicated to internal stakeholders, and business case and investment requests are reviewed and accurate.

About you

To truly excel in this role you will be able to evidence the following skills, experiences, and qualifications:

Essential Skills:

•   Significant programme and project management experience. An environmental background is desirable but not essential
•    Ability to build, review and approve business cases and their associated schedules, ideally in the context of business change and transformation experience and their financial implications
•    Professional approach to communication that adapts to various stakeholder groups (e.g. senior leaders and site-based project teams)
•    Strong IT literacy, comfortable working with Microsoft applications such as Excel

Desirable Skills:

•    An ability to work with a range of environmental and financial data
•    An interest in driving environmental sustainability and net-zero strategies across a large organisation

Experience:

•    Previous experience of creating and operating high-level programmes that deliver transformation. Ideally in the realm of environmental stewardship and decarbonisation, but not essential
•    Desirable that you have experience working with a multi-faceted, large organisation with a wide range of stakeholders

Qualifications:

•    Prince2 practitioner qualification (or similar)
•    Undergraduate Degree
