At Royal Mail we have an exciting opening for a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract as a Senior External Comms/Media Corporate Manager to support and enhance Royal Mail Group’s reputation with external stakeholders and, in particular, the UK national, regional and trade media.

 

You will support the development of excellent external communications products to support confidence in, and delivery of, the Group’s strategic, transformation and financial objectives.

 

You will also support work around the financial calendar, including compiling interim results and the annual report and complementary materials. Work closely with key internal and external stakeholders and advisors to achieve this.

 

This role will work out of London- however Hybrid working is in place.

 

About the role

 

You will support and enhance Royal Mail Group’s reputation with external stakeholders and, in particular, the UK national, regional and trade media.
Support the development and execution of excellent external communications products to support confidence in, and delivery of, the Group’s strategic, transformation and financial objectives. Work closely with key internal and external stakeholders and advisors to achieve this


Generate compelling, high quality and accurate communications content for aspects of the financial calendar

 

Prepare excellent reactive communications and closely manage the media in crisis scenarios 

 

Support delivery of key external projects relating to Group property, pensions (CDC), Quality of Service, pricing changes, M&A activity and other issues that are fundamental to the Group’s reputation and investment story. This includes working with the internal communications team on the development of content for employees


Support the production and delivery of briefings, speaking points, Q&A etc. as appropriate for senior business stakeholders


Where appropriate, provide counsel and constructive challenge to internal stakeholders to support the best interests of the company

 

Ensure appropriate measures are in place to evaluate distribution, message retention, impact and opinion among key internal audiences, and to demonstrably utilise results to improve communications

 

Ensure the accuracy and concision of all content. 

 

Ensure that all communications content aligns with and actively supports the overarching narrative, communications standards, principles and timescales.
Be available to work out of hours (including as part of a regular rota) to manage reputational issues as they arrive. 
 

About You

 

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and attributes;

 

  • Experience working in a Listed company environment. Ideally, this would be in a regulated industry, or in a highly-unionised business. 
  • Strong City media contacts and proven media relations experience – especially in reputation and or crisis management. 
  • Proven excellence in all forms of communications content, gained in either business or media environment
  • Thorough understanding of diverse and evolving mix of communications channels with the ability to deliver integrated plans across multiple channels
  • Sound understanding and proven experience of measurement and research principles
  • Proven management skills with ability to successfully influence key internal stakeholders
  • Clear ability to recommend, devise and implement engaging communication strategies and campaigns across a large, complex, unionised organisation during a period of considerable change.
