Job Purpose


As a Senior Product Owner, you will be responsible for articulating business requirements to the development team in the form of epics, features and stories. You will work with business and project stakeholders to prioritise those stories, manage the platform and team backlog and work closely with the development team to help them understand the desired outcome. A key part of the role is translating complex business problems into clear solutions and helping the team further elaborate those solutions.


In this role your key accountabilities will be:


  • Elaborate features into user stories that conform to the Definition of Ready at each stage of the development lifecycle with a focus on the user journey with clear acceptance criteria
  • Work ahead of the development team to ensure requirements are ready in time for the development team to begin work on them
  • Collaborate with business and project stakeholders to size and prioritise the portfolio backlog according to commercial value
  • Represent the voice of the customer throughout the development lifecycle including sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives 
  • Work on a day-to-day basis with the development team to clarify the requirements and act as the interface between engineering and the business stakeholders
  • Sign-off (‘accept’) stories when they are complete and confirm they meet the required acceptance criteria and the Definition of Done
  • Creating a compelling user experience, expressed through user journeys, wireframes and prototypes
  • Support business stakeholders to construct longer term strategy, vision and related roadmaps together with capacity planning and demand for longer term product/platform strategy
  • Ensure, in collaboration with SMEs and Solution Architects, that non-functional requirements are captured


Key Dimensions:


  • Own the requirements backlog for the team
  • Act as a key interface between engineering and the wider business
  • Ensure requirements reflect customer and business needs and are fit for consumption by the development team
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Be passionate about agile ways of working and work with the Scrum Master to coach team members
  • Drive quality by ensuring requirements reflect the desired user experience and that non-functional, operational needs are clearly articulated to the team


Qualifications and experience required:



  • Deep experience acting as a Product Owner in an agile environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent structural and conceptual analysis skills
  • Track record of decomposing large, complex problems into meaningful, easy to understand requirements that can be implemented iteratively in short timeframes
  • Experience with scalable, mission critical enterprise software solutions
  • Confident and comfortable presenting to audiences from a broad variety of backgrounds
  • Assertive yet pragmatic and empathetic attitude
