Starting Salary £19,000 with pay progression, company pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates. Eligibility required and generous annual leave offering of 22.5 days, plus bank holidays.

Location: Royal Mail , Pond Street, Sheffield, S98 6HR. This is a Hybrid working role with a requirement to attend our Sheffield office every Tuesday and Friday with one other, flexible day each week. During the apprenticeship program You will rotate across the DPO team gaining experience in Information Rights & Governance team, Assessments team, Assurance & Partners team, and Governance & Culture team.  Any necessary travel beyond your agreed place of work would be supported by the business).

About the role

As Privacy Apprentice you will join the Privacy function and gain experience across the full portfolio of activities. The apprenticeship program provides unique exposure and is designed to provide deep insight into the Data Privacy Office function to gain the skills, knowledge, and experience to kickstart a successful career in Data Protection.
During the 24-month scheme you will gain experience across the 3 arms of the team:

1.    Privacy Assessments and Information Rights and Governance, 
2.    Governance, Risk, Compliance and Culture,
3.    Privacy Assurance Management Programs and Partnerships

 

Please note, this is initially a 24 Month FTC within Royal Mail.

 

Apprenticeship Overview

We are looking for someone with a passion for data and privacy who wants to build a career in data protection and information assurance. You will be a team player, have a strong work ethic and take pride in you work, as what we do has a real impact on our colleagues and customers. You will rotate across the DPO team (Sheffield and London) during your 24-month apprenticeship. (Necessary travel beyond your agreed place of work would be supported by the business).

 

What you will do:

  • Logistical support to the Privacy Partners in developing and managing relationships with stakeholders across all parts of the Business to ensure that data protection is embedded within Business strategy and the DPO has oversight of key changes impacting Royal Mail’s data protection risk, ensuring high quality inputs and outputs are captured and monitored.
  • Co-ordination and logistical management of the Privacy Management Program, including organising meetings/workshops and drafting presentations with key stakeholders, championing information security, governance and compliance best practices across the Business providing additional support where required. 
  • Supporting the DPO functions to deliver excellent privacy services for customers and colleagues, including handling of information rights requests, responding to data protection enquiries from internal colleagues, customers, or stakeholders.
  • Support the IRGT team in their management, investigation and remediation of data incidents reporting to the Data Protection Office
  • Support the DPO team in developing a centre of excellence (CoE) for stakeholders to access up to date, relevant privacy information, our policies, and processes.
  • Work with the team to create tailored training for our people, using creativity and innovation to ensure our messages are little, often, and memorable, and embedded within the culture of Royal Mail.

About You

  • A passion for a career Privacy & Data Protection and be commitment to competing the Data Protection Information Governance Practitioner apprenticeship. 
  • Experience of data collection, data analysis and presentation of insights.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Critical thinking in assessing the effectiveness of data protection measures.
  • Resourcefulness in learning new tools and techniques for data protection.
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality and data privacy.
  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest developments in data protection laws and technologies.
  • Act in a professional manner with integrity and confidentiality.
  • Effective time management.
  • Works collaboratively with others across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  •  Have accountability and ownership of your tasks and workload.
  • Seeks learning opportunities and continuous professional development.
  • Flexible and adaptive to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Take responsibility, show initiative and organised.
  • Level 2/GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or higher.
  • Knowledge of data protection, information security and privacy compliance issues and applicable privacy and information governance would be useful but is not a pre-requisite and as part of this role the individual will include the data protection and information governance practitioner training to extend the individuals expertise in this area.

The next stage of the selection process will be online tests followed by a face-to-face assessment consisting of competency based and role specific questions.
