Royal Mail 185 Farringdon Road LONDON EC1A 1AA

Not many companies can say they’ve been around for 500 years and were founded by Henry VIII, but we can. Royal Mail is the UK’s designated Universal Postal Service Provider, supporting customers, businesses and communities around the country. We are the only postal company to provide a one-price-goes-anywhere, six days a week service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK.

It is an exciting time to join Royal Mail. We’re a FTSE 250 company, we generated revenue of £10.2 billion in 2017-18. On top of this, we have recently undertaken an extensive review and transformation of the Technology function, one of the largest IT transformation programmes across the UK. With this transformation now complete, there is significant potential for growth and success.

Digital is now at the heart of our business and drives our vision of enabling smarter working - from Front Line colleagues through to Head Office. At the same time we strive to deliver innovative products and services through a world class customer experience.

Solution Architecture at Royal Mail: Royal Mail Group (RMG) delivers tens of millions of letters every day and over a billion parcels per year to 30 million addresses in the UK. The logistical complexity of this operation requires a workforce of 150,000, supported by world class technology. Solutions Architects at RMG are instrumental in the delivery of Information System and Information Technology (IS/IT) capabilities to the business and their customers.

It’s an exciting time to be a Solutions Architect at Royal Mail, with over a hundred projects under way at any one time. There is a huge opportunity to contribute to the business’s transformation, with data a vital part of our strategy. As well as our data platform being a key aspect of many major programmes, there are a number of strategic data specific projects.

Over the past 3 years, the Solution Architecture team has demonstrated excellent value in its support of successful projects and, as a result, has experienced significant growth. The team continues to grow, with the data platform a particular area of focus. The well respected team constitutes a number of highly skilled architects, with complimentary skills from a variety of backgrounds. Whilst the architecture team is distributed and assigned across many portfolios, programmes and projects, it operates as a single practice within Solution Engineering. The practice offers a supportive environment, first class training courses and opportunities to learn different skills and techniques across the Royal Mail Technology.

The Solutions Architect will play an active role in architecting data solutions and assuring the design and delivery work of suppliers. They must be able to take complex business problems and translate them into IS/IT deliverables that can be understood by technical and non-technical staff, suppliers and business customers. The Solutions Architect must deliver IS/IT capabilities that meet business requirements and adhere to broader strategic requirements of the enterprise architecture. The Solutions Architect will be instrumental in ensuring that IS/IT investment is implemented in a form that can be easily maintained, operated and managed over many years.
